My guest is Danielle Henderson, TV writer and author of the moving and thoughtful new memoir THE UGLY CRY. She talks about using humor as a way to process some of the strange and disturbing events throughout her childhood, and chronicles what it was like to find solace and protection from abuse as her one-of-a-kind and tough-as-nails grandmother. Danielle speaks about creating her very popular site Feminist Ryan Gosling and gives advice to writers who feel as though they are starting without any connections to the publishing industry. Danielle's writing credits also include NY Times, Buzzfeed, and the Netflix project Maniac.
