Sascha Rothchild : Her Secret to Being Such a Prolific Writer
Sascha Rothchild has written a memoir, TV shows, and now a thriller. She gets the job done. If you’re like me you probably have a lot of great ideas for books and articles that you get really excited about but kind of just go nowhere. But what about if you acted on some of these ideas, no matter what happened? That’s what Sascha does. She has written for TV shows like GLOW and The Carrie Diaries. She wrote a memoir How to Get Divorced by 30: My Misguided Attempt at a Starter Marriage. And this month, she released her first novel, a fun thriller called Blood Sugar. On the pod, Sascha talks about how she manages to make the time for her passion projects even when she’s not on the clock.
Some highlights from our interview:
[15:05 -15:17] “I was one of those people that thought, Look, writing's really hard. Making a living at writing's hard. If you can be happy doing anything else, do that other thing. I could not be happy doing anything else.”
[28:12-28:29] “I write very quickly, but it's really bad. But I like to just have the thing [so] that it exists. And then I go and I rewrite and I rewrite and I rewrite and that's my process. I like to do 30 drafts of everything, where some people are very meticulous and a second draft is a great draft. But for me, that's just not how I do it.”
[36:53-37:02] “I think especially for writers, therapy is really helpful. If you don't want to better yourself, at least to understand your characters more.”
[40:01-40:15] “My mantra is, the words can't hurt me. Because you sit down and you stare at a blank page and it's really scary, but really the words can't hurt you. They're just words. They're going to be words and you're gonna type them and you can erase them and retype them.”
