Don't Have the Patience to Meditate? Try This Instead.

Jake Eagle

Mindful meditation has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and pain, but many of us don't have the time or patience to make it a regular practice (hello!).

Guest Jake Eagle, a psychotherapist and author based in Hawaii, says he has the solution — micro-dosing mindfulness.

In his new book The Power of AWE, he and co-author Michael Amster, MD, share a simple mindfulness practice that can help you achieve the benefits of meditation in a matter of 20 seconds.

Jake takes me through an example of the practice during our interview, asking me to meditate while looking at one of my favorite photos of all time.

Taken in 1947, the image was snapped backstage at the Shubert Theater during a production of the Broadway musical “High Button Shoes.” From the back left to right are my grandfather Jack Small, the show’s general manager, my grandmother Edith, songwriter Jule Styne, lyricist Sammy Cahn, producer Joseph Kipness, and legendary choreographer Jerome Robbins at the far right. Seated in front from the right, actress Phil Silvers, his wife Jo-Carroll Dennison, actress Nanette Fabray, and a glamourous mystery woman smoking a cigarette.
