Hanif Abdurraquib: The Brilliance Behind Tribe Called Quest

   

Fans of the show know that I love hip hop, especially old school hip hop—and my favorite group of all time is Tribe Called Quest.

My guest, poet Hanif Abdurraqib, has written a beautiful and imaginative tribute to Tribe called: Go Ahead In The Rain: Notes To A Tribe Called Quest. Part poetry, memoir, part love letter, part hip hop history, part social commentary, and all good, the book celebrates the group, the art form, and an era through a f-r-e-s-h lens.

I enjoyed taking an award tour with Hanif through the 90s to the present. And hearing about his own journey growing up in Ohio, becoming a music critic and then transitioning to poetry. Check the rhyme.
